The French Pantry: essentials ingredients

Following My live session on YouTube where I talked about what are the essential ingredient you should be stocking in your pantry if you are a French food enthusiast.  here is a list to get you started. This list of ingredients will allow prepare a wide array of  French fish  meat recipes.

Dairy products:

  • French style butter
  • Heavy whipping cream (full cream, pure cream)
  • Crème fraiche
  • Whole milk
  • Good quality fresh eggs
  • Hard cheese (Emmental or gruyere)

Vegetables:

  • Carrots
  • Brown onions
  • Red onions
  • Garlic
  • Celery
  • Leeks
  • Potatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Turnips
  • Green beans
  • Cauliflower

Dry product:

  • Brown lentils
  • Pasta (any type you like)
  • Long grain rice

Spices and herbs:

  • Salt
  • Black and white pepper
  • Dijon mustard
  • Red and white wine vinegar
  • Oil (peanut, sunflower or grapeseed)
  • Thyme (fresh or dry)
  • Fresh parsley
  • Dry Bay leaves
  • Fresh nutmeg
  • Stock cubes

Liquors and wine:

  • Red wine: cote du Rhone or Bordeaux style)
  • White wine: chardonnay, sauvignon or Riesling (I like to use Chablis wine.)
  • Cognac
  • Armagnac
  • Dark or white Rhum
  • Grand Marnier
